Okay, so this all started when I wanted to start playing around with Linux... and run a small home network using the Linux box as a gateway. What fun I hear you cry! Well, since installing Linux I've got the following up and running and 100% stable which is nice :)
Samba (with smbmount) - allows me to share directories across both platforms
Apache - Webserver for development and running some of the following
SquirrelMail WebMail - So I can check my e-mail from anywhere
MRTG - Multi Router Traffic Generator - which I've adapted with the help of net-snmp for remote monitoring and general curiosity. Find out what my server's up to here
ProFTP - For when I want to share some useful downloads I've found
Webmin - VERY useful web-based configuration tool
Firewall software is looked after by running iptables the manual way ;-) Yes I know it's nerdy but imho it's the only true way of knowing EXACTLY what firewall software is up to, ie, do it all manually. There's a good tutorial available here
SETI! Yeah, I've got the seti bug, crunching seti units in the hope that we might find something one day. Come and crunch with me and THE team over at Team Phoenix Rising
